Mid-Winter Dinner

A couple weekends ago was our mid-winter celebration, which happened to also coincide with our 2day weekend for June. "Mid-winter" was new for me since Arizona doesn't have much of a winter. Apparently people all over the world celebrate the mid-winter/winter solstice because it's the longest night of the year and the mid point of winter. All of the different stations in Antarctica celebrate it and send each other greetings.  We celebrated it here with a huge dinner, music, dancing, and lots of booze, its really a big deal here.

We received greetings from the stations of the other Nations on the ice including, Australia, Chile, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, South Korea, South Africa, UK, Ukraine, Uruguay, and our President.  I didn't feel like posting them all so I'm posting the ones from all 3 U.S. Stations, and the President of course.

After the greetings I'll also post a bunch of pics from our mid-winter dinner. This is going to be one picture heavy post.

McMurdo's Mid-Winter Greeting...

 South Pole's Mid-Winter Greeting...

 Palmer Station's Mid-Winter Greeting...

Presidential Greeting. I'm not a fan of the current office holder, but it's still from The President...
We don't typically eat in such fanciness...

Table clothes and everything, damn....

Cleared out the tables to make a dance floor...
Never seen a bar in the galley before...

Everyone dressed up for the festivities.  The nicest clothes I have here is a t-shirt and jeans, hahah...
I think she made the dress out of an old tent...
Yes, it's a kilt, but he's a monster so don't say anything he might hurt you...
Standing...
Our official winter community photo. Almost everyone is in there...
Booze Center...
Like more standing or something...
Getting booze...

Fancy dinner...

Some stuff wrapped in a wrappery type of situation, and a sauce for dipping, no double dipping...
Penguin Livers on a cracker...  <--- No not really!

A freakin chocolate fountain, lets start coating shit in chocolate!
That is a shit load of deserts...
Seriously, a shit load...

Look at that bowl of yummy tomatoes from the greenhouse.  I had to refrain myself from just stealing the bowl, hiding in my room, and eating nothing but tomatoes for dinner...

Looks like a dinner to me...
